A comprehensive overview of plumbing system failures and their investigative routes. This webinar will cover plumbing-related failures in residential and commercial properties and the investigation pathways to determining cause and origin and subrogation potential. It covers everything from initial site investigations, evidence collection, and laboratory examinations to additional investigative paths, including material and metallurgical testing and analysis.

John Harrington is a Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer conducting forensic investigations and providing consulting services related to water, fire, HVAC, and other mechanical losses. He has worked in a wide variety of sectors, including residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, fire protection, and automotive industries. His diverse and complementary background, combined with his technical knowledge and a strong physics background within practical applications, allows him to bring a unique perspective to his investigations.

Tommy Halim is a Mechanical Engineer specializing in failure investigation, analysis, and laboratory and field testing of materials and mechanical systems. He provides technical support, litigation support, and expert analyses to law firms, insurance companies, and other industries. He employs forensic analysis to determine the root cause and failure modes ranging from mechanical systems to plumbing systems, including water losses involving installation errors and manufacturing defects. His mechanical system failure casework has included the evaluation of heavy machinery, damage to industrial equipment and property, and personal injury cases.

Additionally, Tommy applies various 3D scanning technologies for scene and evidence preservation, computational modeling, and
dimensional analysis. He is an operator of the FARO 3D Laser Scanner, ATOS Core structured light scanner, and Matterport 3D camera. He uses these technologies to capture accurate dimensional data for detailed computational analyses and generate visual aids for legal proceedings. Furthermore, he has experience with computer-aided stress modeling, heat transfer, and fluid flow.
