Description:
This presentation will provide adjusters and legal professionals an overview of the investigation process following a battery failure or a failure of a battery powered device. The presenters will introduce attendees to the operation, construction, and historical development of a battery. The different types of batteries will be discussed as well as the failures that can occur. Scientific investigation techniques for a variety of battery powered devices will be included, and case studies will be utilized to illustrate expert strategies for effective investigations and best practices for litigation management.

Brad Davis is a Professional Engineer with over 20 years of experience providing expert consultation to the insurance and legal communities in matters of equipment losses, equipment valuation, damage assessment, and causation analysis. His expertise has been sought after in assisting with several World Trade Center files and he has testified in Federal Court as a consulting expert. Mr. Davis has been a featured speaker on topics including “Electrical / Electronic Overstress” and is a member of the International Investigation of Arson Investigators (IAAI). Mr. Davis performs investigations involving electrical failures and appliance fires, and provides technical advice for large industrial losses involving complex automated machinery caused by fire, water, and lightning / power surges.
As a Fire & Explosion investigator, Andrew Bennett has more than 20 years of experience, conducting approximately 1600 fire and explosion investigations globally in both the public and private sectors. He has testified as an expert witness in fire and explosion investigations in the course of deposition and trial proceedings. Mr. Bennett’s experience encompasses large/complex loss management and investigations that have involved extended duration deployments and team responses. Examples of his large loss fire/explosion investigations include losses involving warehousing facilities, explosions involving natural gas and propane, chemical manufacturing and storage plants, marijuana grow facilities, multi-residential complexes, furniture manufacturing plants, large retail centers, and multiple fatality incidents.
