The WDTL Trial Boot Camp features four one-hour CLEs hosted by experienced defense trial lawyers and members of the WDTL community in areas of opening statements, direct examination, cross-examination, and closing arguments.
WDTL Trial Boot Camp: Session 1 – Opening Statements presented by Jean Homan (RET), Tacoma City Attorney's Office
Jean Homan was a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Tacoma, providing tort defense to the City and its employees for more than 25 years, retiring in 2022. Over the course of her career with the City, Jean’s practice included personal injury cases, roadway liability cases, employment law cases, and cases involving other areas specific to municipal law. The primary focus of her practice, however, was law enforcement and constitutional civil rights defense. Jean has appeared in all levels of Washington state courts, in the United States District Court, and in Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She represented the City in hundreds of cases, including 16 superior court and USDC trials, in addition to arbitration and administrative hearings. Jean served as a trustee for WDTL and was the WDTL 2020 Defense Trial Lawyer of the Year.
