Description:

This presentation focuses on forensic injury biomechanics.

First, a simple view of biomechanics, injury causation, and injury mechanisms is provided. Then the differences between a biomechanist and a medical doctor are described. Finally, case studies from auto collisions, slip and fall incidents, and others will be discussed.

Presented by:

Mohammad Atarod, PhD, PE
Senior Biomechanical Engineer

Dr. Atarod is a Senior Biomechanical Engineer specializing in injury biomechanics and injury mechanism/causation analysis and accident reconstruction. He works on cases across the country, analyzing injuries in automotive collisions, industrial accidents, workers compensation claims, premises liability claims, slip / trip and falls, and sport / recreation accidents. He has testified as an expert witness in multiple depositions and trials. He testifies on vehicle speeds, impact severities (delta-Vs), collision sequence, mechanism of injury, seat belt use and effectiveness, timing of injuries in multiple collision events, differentiating acute traumatic injuries from chronic/degenerative conditions, and occupant kinematics and dynamics.
