This presentation will focus on the various types of sprinkler systems, their basic components, and functions. Additionally, common failures are discussed as well as methods for recovering from the loss. Two case studies are presented. This seminar will detail how to investigate claims related to these types of events to help determine coverage and extent of damage.

Mr. Langstaff is a Senior Project Engineer out of Envista’s Chicago office. With over 5 years of forensic engineering investigation experience, in addition to over 25 years of nuclear industry experience, he has the breadth of knowledge necessary for complex investigations. He is licensed as a professional engineer in multiple states with both fire protection and mechanical engineering endorsements. Mr. Langstaff has provided both deposition and court testimony. Mr. Langstaff has an in-depth understanding of fire protection systems through leading fire protection team inspections for a federal agency and through obtaining a graduate degree in fire protection engineering. His experience includes investigating fire protection freeze losses, non-fire sprinkler activations, kitchen suppression system failures, and code compliance issues. Mr. Langstaff is also experienced in investigating failures of mechanical systems such as piping failures, boiler failures, and mechanical equipment failures.
