Description:
This presentation provides background and understanding for adjusting fire losses associated with large wildland fire events and claims. These losses can be overwhelming due to the immense size and amount of destruction. The presentation will cover basic knowledge about wildland fires, how and why they burn, basic burn patterns, causes of wildland fires, things to look for onsite and resource links to aid the adjuster when dealing with large wildland fire loss investigations. In addition, the presentation will review case studies of examples of a residential structure loss due to wildland fire and which will assist in mitigating these types of claims.

Bryan Spitulski
Mr. Bryan Spitulski is a Principal Consultant within the Fire & Explosion Division at Envista Forensics. He has over 30 years of professional and technical experience, conducting thousands of fire scene investigations in his multi-decade career. Bryan has expertise with wildfires, commercial, residential, vehicle and marine fire investigations. His career in fire service started in 1988 while in the US Army when he was deployed to fight the wildland fires in Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming, USA). After his honorable discharge from the US Military as a sergeant, he became a Fire Safety Specialist. As a Firefighter he has worked on hand crews for the US Forest Service where he was the Lead Sawyer for two years. He held numerous roles involving crash rescue and hazardous materials specialist with various municipalities before beginning his career as a public Fire Investigator than a private Fire Investigator. Mr. Spitulski has been involved in many of the larger wildfires on the West Coast starting in 2017. Mr. Spitulski is a current Certified Fire Investigator with the International Association of Arson Investigators, as well as a licensed Private Investigator in the State of California.
