Seeking Nominations for the WDTL Annual Awards

The WDTL is proud to recognize excellence in our legal community. Each year we award three WDTL members and one Plaintiff's Trial Lawyer with our awards of distinction. Please review the criteria outlined below and email nominations of individuals whom you believe deserve the award to Executive Director Maggie Sweeney. Please provide a paragraph, or two, describing your nominee's qualifications for the award. Submissions are due by November 7, 2021. Questions, please email Nominating Chair, Rory Cosgrove.Award winners will be announced at the Annual WDTL Seattle Judicial Reception in January 2022. More details regarding the reception to come.
I. Outstanding Defense Trial Lawyer
An individual who has promoted the highest professional and ethical standards for Washington civil defense attorneys. This individual should be one who has promoted collegiality, professional decorum, and the utmost ethical standards while practicing supreme advocacy for his or her clients. A nominee must be a current member of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers to receive this award.
II. Outstanding Plaintiff's Trial Lawyer
A trial attorney practicing in the plaintiff's bar who has promoted the highest professional and ethical standards for Washington civil plaintiffs' attorneys. This individual should be one who has promoted collegiality, professional decorum, and the utmost ethical standards while practicing supreme advocacy for his or her clients. Naturally, an individual does not have to be a member of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers to receive this award.
III. Outstanding Litigation Associate Award
An attorney who has practiced seven years or less, and who has promoted the highest professional and ethical standards for Washington civil defense attorneys. This individual should be one who has promoted collegiality, professional decorum, and the utmost ethical standards while practicing supreme advocacy for his or her clients. Factors to consider for this award include: (1) Writing Skills; (2) Legal and Factual Analysis; (3) Oral Skills; (4) Personal Traits; (5) Dependability and Responsibility; (6) Advocacy; and (7) Pro Bono and Community Service. A nominee must be a current member of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers to receive this award.
IV. Community Leadership Award
The Community Leadership Award recognizes an individual who has provided substantial support and benefit to our community through volunteerism or pro bono efforts while embodying outstanding professionalism, ethics, and civic virtue. A nominee must be a current member of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers to receive this award.
