WDTL’s 2024 Mock Trial Boot Camp: A Second Successful Year
WDTL’s 2024 Mock Trial Boot Camp featured 38 developing lawyers participating in 10 sessions ranging from Introduction to Trial to Closing Arguments. Thanks to faculty member Alice Brown and her ABOTA colleagues, the faculty introduced a new fact pattern based on The Wizard of Oz, pitting Dorothy against the Wicked Witch.
The sessions alternated between Teaching and Practicums. Following the teaching sessions, participants had the opportunity to hone their new skills during small group practicums facilitated by our faculty: Alice Brown, Betsy Smith, Jessica Moore, and Kazuemon Davis. Our faculty worked with each participant, providing constructive feedback and practical suggestions.
Boot Camp concluded at WDTL’s 2024 Annual Meeting and Convention in Walla Walla before a crowd of seasoned trial lawyers. Kelsey Norman and Monica Marks of Preg O’Donnell & Gillet came away as our champions in the Closing Argument competition.
Thank you to our amazing Trial Skills Teachers: Jean Homan, Opening Statements and Closing Arguments; Kazuemon Davis, Direct of Defendant and Cross of Plaintiff; and Allison Krashan and CaroLea Casas, Cross of Experts.
Of course our Practicums would not have been what they were without the assistance of some amazing witnesses: WDTL Board Members Pierce Jordan and John Barton, Core Sponsor Niki Raney with JS Held (she nailed the “Dorothy” look), Jennifer Taylor, City of Tacoma, and Anne Marie Landis, KS Lawyers.
WDTL is proud to offer this program accessible to our Developing Lawyer Members. If you missed this year’s Mock Trial Bootcamp, you may view the Teaching Sessions under the Education tab at wdtl.org.
